NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION EXPERIENCES – WHAT TO EXPECT
Summer 2023 New Student Orientation will consist of a combination of online and in-person experiences for you and your supporters.
Summer New Student Orientation will consist of the following:
1. Online Pre-Orientation
The first step in your Orientation experience is participating in the online pre-orientation session which takes approximately 30-45 minutes to complete. This session will provide you with valuable resources and information to prepare you for your in-person orientation experience.
2. Webinar (online)
Second, you will participate in a “live” webinar through Zoom. Here is the link to the Financing Your Education Webinar in case you missed it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lEHza0nN9lc
You will have an opportunity to hear from campus staff and will be able to ask any questions you may have. Learn about what it’s like to be a Bobcat through a live online webinar available to you in the month of June.
The webinar link will be sent to the email address(es) entered when you registered for your New Student Orientation. Registered guests are welcome to attend any of the webinars above, however, all webinars will be formatted specifically for you, the student.
If you registered a guest, they will receive a link to participate through the email address you registered them with.
3. Orientation Day (In-person) –
At your in-person orientation, you and your guest(s) will hear from current students and staff about what it means to be a successful Bobcat and receive valuable insight on how to make a smooth transition to UC Merced.
The orientation day experience will consist of two separate programs, one for students and another for parents & guests. The orientation day will start at 8am with check-in and will end at 5pm with a farewell reception. Students and their guests are expected to stay for the entire duration of the orientation experience.
Please note that the content for students and parents & guests will be unique to the audience.
Parking is included in your orientation fee and will be available in the Bellevue parking lot. Signage will be displayed to help you locate the designated orientation parking spaces in the Bellevue parking lot.
For students and guests arriving between 6:30am-7:30am we will have Early Arrivals Programming in the Commuter Lounge located in Sentinel Rock. You will have priority check-in, an earlier breakfast, and an opportunity to ask our Orientation team questions before our program starts at 9am.
A light continental breakfast, lunch, and afternoon refreshments will be provided for you at your orientation. We will also have hydration stations available where you can fill up a refillable water bottle. We encourage you to bring a refillable water bottle to your orientation.
