Placement Exams

Spanish Placement Exam

Who needs to take the Spanish Placement Exam?
Required for all students, including transfer students, who plan to:
  • Enroll in a Spanish course and have previously studied the language;
  • Major in History, Spanish, or English and have not completed a year of college-level language; or
  • Pursue a minor in Spanish.
 
The Spanish Placement exam is online, and time may vary based on your knowledge (20-30 minutes). The Spanish Placement Exam is not designed for heritage speakers; native-Spanish speakers should contact SSHA advising for appropriate course placement. Students should read the SSHA Language Placement Guidelines
 
To access the exam, click on the SSHA placement exam website and log in using the following password: atwater1 (ends with the digit "1").
 
 

French Placement Exam

Who needs to take the French Placement Exam?
Required for all students, including transfer students, who plan to:
  • Enroll in a French course and have previously studied the language
  • Major in History or English and have not completed a year of college-level language

Writing Placement Exam

If you have not completed the UC Analytical Writing Placement Exam and need to satisfy the ELWR: The exam will be administered the morning of the second Saturday in May (13th), at testing centers throughout the state. We encourage you to take the examination as soon as possible.

If you are not able to complete the exam on May 13, 2017, you will enroll in the Entry-Level Writing course at UC Merced. Visit the UC Office of the President website for more information about this placement exam.
